Wearing O' The Green

The tradition of wearing green clothing in the US for St. Patrick's Day goes all the way back to the 19th century, after the Great Famine in Ireland when large numbers of Irish immigrants traveled to America (though it has a longer history in Ireland). The color green is believed to be taken from Ireland's nickname, "The Emerald Isle", or maybe from the color of shamrocks, or maybe for political reasons...there's a lot of debate on this. While not currently a trending color for Spring fashion, we can all agree that it's a fun day of the year where we're happy to find a little green to throw on.
